By Helen Vanderburg, Nautilus Institute™ Master Trainer
The importance of strengthening the core body cannot be ignored as it links all movement. A strong core body will support our back and prevent back injuries as well as give us greater force generation in all activities.

- The core body can be defined as the torso from the neck to the pelvis
- A well designed core strength training program should include exercises that train the front, side and back or the core
- Traditional fitness activities and Pilates based exercise are excellent ways to strengthen the core
- Core strength exercises can be done as a separate workout or as part of your resistance training workout
Benefits of Core/Back Strengthening
- Core strength prevents back injuries
- A strong core can make activities easier to perform
